![]() Sierra games, despite being full of death around every corner, were light games that didn’t take themselves too seriously. I also feel I failed to mention this game’s sense of humor. I feel like there is some sort of master class on point of view to be had just with this narrator and all of his uses. You can clearly see it for yourself.” There are moments where Roehm will break the fourth wall to argue with the narrator himself. He will give opinions on scenery, make comments at Roehm’s expense and complain at the player for looking at certain items along the lines of, “It’s a door. While the narrators of previous Sierra games just gave descriptions and sometimes made bad puns, the Quest for Infamy narrator has his own personality. As far as I’m concerned he is his own character. ![]() While I briefly mention him, the narrator is amazing. There just wasn’t a viable entry point to address it. However, that said, I couldn’t find a spot for everything I wanted to mention. There is something freeing in being able to explain all your feelings towards a game without restraint in a piece of holistic criticism. I guess without the need to reign it in for suggested review word count and that I felt I needed to explain in more depth the difference in my feels and view on it meant it ended up twice as long as I would have otherwise written it. I did not expect this to be as long as it was. ![]() But, I heavily disagreed with Nick’s assessment so it was decided I would do a second opinion post for my weekly column. This is the third time this has happened to me. ![]() I received the code for it mere hours before fellow contributor Nick Dinicola’s review of the game went up. I was offered a review copy of Quest for Infamy through one of my own PR contacts and once I got some out standing work out of the way I accepted. Which I'd definitely prefer not to.There was a bit of a mixup over at PopMatters. So now I'm totally stuck and don't know how to fix it except restarting the game. Everything else (like finishing Prospero's quests) went fine. Then I tried to get inside the castle on my own (just out of curiosity) and got kicked out politely by the runic-named guy. :) Anyway, I just followed the message she left with Kit, met her near the castle and started the crest-collection quest. That totally confused me because, as I already said, I don't remember arranging any meetings. But then, after a few nights I've spent somewhere in Tyr, Roehm suddenly "recalled" something about a meeting in the pub which he almost missed by then. Either something's really bad with my memory, or it's another bug, but I absolutely don't remember originally talking with that green lady about any secret meetings or some such: I've just met her once when she first came into town and got kicked out by the sheriff. I'm not sure if it was him or Katrina that-lady-in-green-whose-name-I-can't-remember-right-now who hinted me to search for a living Killington, but I definitely got that task from someone.Īlso, now I remember another odd thing. I did speak to Japsworth and know everything he had to say to me (at least judging by the corresponding achievement). From an unintentionally read spoiler I know that another piece is there, but the game doesn't tell me that unless I speak to Hummel first, and I can't speak to him because of the diary problem. I've also met the gnoll behind the waterfall. Yes, I've already collected the key and the Master piece from the well (I've been there before, seen the odd symbol, so when I got the necklace, I didn't wait for any more hints and just went straight there). I'm almost sure that I've already done some things that I'm not really supposed to do yet (like trying to get inside the fortress), and maybe finished some of the diary-related quests "out of order", but if that leads to what I'm seeing now, then it's just asking for a patch. Is that not proof enough? This particular questline really looks confusing, even by QFG standards (I do remember how hard the original games were for a first-time player).Īnd it does look a little bit glitchy (the part when I find the diary and it says "there's nothing important" AFTER I spoke to Frederic, then pops up on some random unrelated action, etc). Why do I need to read anything else, anyway? Hummel's diary just says straight that he's a Killington, but changed his name. The only new thing I've found there is a solution for the board puzzle that I've already solved. There's no such topic in both dialogues, I can't show the diary to anyone, and browsing the books just brings up some random titles. I can't find any option to "read about the Killingtons" there.
